I’ll never forget the first time I saw a cacao pod in the jungle. After tromping through waist-high buffalo grass, I discovered rows of 10‑foot-tall cacao trees thriving beneath the shade of the jungle canopy.

Cacao is an “understory crop” — it survives only under the protective overstory, linking its success to the health of the surrounding forest. That realization — that chocolate can help preserve the jungle — inspired my journey as both a cacao farmer and chocolate maker. Today, Treehouse Originals continues that mission: crafting chocolate that sustains people, places, and planet.
