I’ll never forget the first time I saw a cacao pod in the jungle. After tromping through waist-high buffalo grass, I discovered rows of cacao trees thriving under the shade of a towering jungle canopy.

Later, I learned cacao is an understory crop—it flourishes only beneath the protective shade of the forest. The success of cacao is inherently tied to the health of the surrounding jungle.
